DISCIPLINE AT KIGALI CHRISTIAN SCHOOL
At Kigali Christian School, our commitment to delivering a holistic education is deeply rooted in Christian values. A fundamental aspect of this education is our unique approach to discipline. We employ redemptive and preventative strategies, aiming to create an environment where students are encouraged to make positive choices and understand the consequences of their actions. Our discipline philosophy is anchored in the belief that every action has a consequence. Rather than viewing discipline as mere punishment, we see it as an opportunity for growth and learning. When students make poor choices, they face the natural consequences of those decisions. Conversely, positive choices are rewarded, reinforcing desirable behaviors. This approach motivates students to make decisions that lead to beneficial outcomes.
This philosophy is deeply rooted in scripture, specifically Proverbs 22:6: “Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not depart from it.” This biblical principle underscores the importance of early and consistent guidance, helping children develop a strong moral foundation that will guide them throughout their lives.
To practically implement this philosophy, we have developed a comprehensive discipline booklet. Each student begins with 50 marks. When they make good choices, marks are added, while poor choices result in deductions. This system not only tracks behavior but also serves as a tangible reminder of the impact of their actions.
In addition to the discipline booklet, we provide a detailed student handbook that outlines the behavioral expectations for all students, ensuring clarity and consistency. To further reinforce these expectations, we require students and their parents to sign a Student Behavioral Contract. This contract, a summarized version of the handbook, represents a mutual commitment to upholding the values and standards of Kigali Christian School.
