SPIIRITUAL FORMATION AT K.C.S
Kigali Christian School (KCS), a private institution under the stewardship of Youth for Christ/Rwanda, is dedicated to nurturing students who embody the likeness of Christ and are committed to serving God within their communities. Central to this mission is the comprehensive spiritual formation program designed to cultivate not only academic excellence but also profound spiritual growth among students. At KCS, various structured spiritual activities are integrated into the weekly schedule, aiming to foster a vibrant and transformative community of faith.
One of the cornerstones of KCS’s spiritual activities is the morning devotions, held every Tuesday and Thursday from 8:15 am to 8:40 am. These sessions are led by over twelve dedicated preachers assigned to different classes, coordinated by the discipleship prefect in collaboration with the chaplain. The purpose of these devotions is to start the day with a collective focus on spiritual reflection and growth, setting a positive tone for the day ahead. Complementing this are the weekly Bible studies, where the chaplain meets with a small group of students every Monday from 7:30 am to 8:15 am to delve into selected books of the Bible. This intimate setting allows for deeper understanding and personal application of biblical principles.
Prayer is an integral part of life at KCS, with students organizing prayer sessions throughout the week, especially during breaks. Additionally, a special overnight prayer is held at the end of each term, organized by students and the chaplain, often featuring guest worship teams and preachers. This event provides a unique opportunity for extended worship, prayer, and spiritual rejuvenation.
Chapel services at KCS are thoughtfully planned and executed, with O-level students gathering every Tuesday from 3:30 pm to 4:50 pm, and A-level students meeting every Thursday from 1:55 pm to 3:15 pm. These sessions are designed to offer a blend of worship and the sharing of God’s word, carefully coordinated by the chaplain with the involvement of evangelism prefects. Furthermore, the student worship team, which practices regularly during the week, plays a significant role in leading worship during chapels and Sunday services, ensuring that these moments are spiritually enriching and musically uplifting.
The chaplaincy at KCS extends beyond organized events to offer personal support through counseling. The chaplain’s office is always open, providing a safe space for students to share their sorrows and receive guidance. This individualized approach allows the chaplain to reach out intentionally to students based on their unique situations, offering tailored spiritual support.
Crusades, held each term, are another highlight of KCS’s spiritual activities. Organized by the evangelism team and the chaplain, these events bring together KCS staff, students, and visitors to share and celebrate their spiritual journeys. In addition to these large gatherings, the chaplaincy department and evangelism team regularly organize training sessions, such as healing training and Inductive Bible Study training, to further enrich the students’ spiritual lives.
Sunday services are a vital part of the spiritual rhythm for boarding students at KCS. These well-prepared fellowship meetings are designed to help students grow spiritually, providing consistent and meaningful engagement with faith-based themes. Moreover, the Project Serve initiative embodies the school’s commitment to community service. This outreach program, which involves both students and staff, focuses on assisting poor families and sharing the gospel, exemplifying the practical application of Christian values.
